A Journey to the Origin – The InteractionSeeds Video

A Creative Journey with InteractionSeeds

Creating the project video for InteractionSeeds was an exciting opportunity to bring ideas to life. At first glance, the task seemed straightforward: present the concept, implementation, and objectives. But as we soon discovered, transforming the essence of this interdisciplinary initiative into a compelling visual story was a fascinating and intricate challenge.

The collaboration between art and science is rich with potential and also layered with complexity. Capturing this dynamic interplay on film invited us to think differently. How could we express creativity, research, and innovation in a way that resonates deeply with viewers? Perhaps the answer lay not in conventional documentary formats, but in embracing a more artistic, interpretive approach. And so, we did exactly that, embarking on an inspiring creative journey with Spanish performance artist Laura Salaverry.

Origin – the Video

Laura hails from Bilbao and brings with her a vibrant mix of talents—she’s a painter, dancer, musician, actress, and video artist, all while being a mother of five. Her boundless energy and multifaceted artistic background made her the perfect partner to explore the InteractionSeeds project from a fresh, imaginative perspective. Our initial conversations with Laura revealed just how new and complex this type of project was for her. She candidly shared:

“At first, I felt completely blocked. I had never encountered anything like this, especially not something commissioned by the European Commission.”

But rather than being deterred, Laura’s openness and curiosity became a driving force. As we delved deeper into the project together, what began as a moment of hesitation transformed into a shared creative exploration—one that allowed us to reimagine how the story of InteractionSeeds could be told.

An incredible journey began to the origin, to the roots of what makes the collaboration between art and science so special – the human being. Laura’s creativity seemed boundless. She developed a story, wrote the music, designed costumes, choreographed her performance and sang the song ‘Come with me to the beat’:

Together with Laura, we finally succeeded in visualising the idea of InteractionSeeds in a unique piece of art. A video that expresses through artistic creativity the power and lasting influence that collaboration between science and art should have in our society, and the opportunities that collaborative work offers.

Laura produced the video with her team in her home region, the beautiful Basque Country near Bilbao. Here, project partner Gaia-Cluster has sown two fruitful seeds and launched the initiatives Inclusive and Culturally-Rooted Energy Communities and Smart Spaces for reduced Stress and Well-Being, both of which have a major impact.

A special highlight: Laura and her team captured the creative process on camera. From her initial feelings to the composition of the music that forms the basis of her creative work, right through to the preparations, Laura takes us on a journey in “Origin – the Documentary”. Project partners also have their say, providing insights into the perspective of a European research project.

We hope you enjoy the video and the documentary, and would like to thank Laura and her team once again.
